Across eleven states and over 173 million acres, U.S. federal and state agencies, private landowners, and partners are coming together to protect the Greater sage-grouse with a conservation approach built on coordination and partnership. This collaboration led to the historic decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in September of 2015 to not list the bird under the Endangered Species Act. This 2016 report highlights selected recent accomplishments of federal agencies and partners in conserving the sagebrush ecosystem and the more than 350 species, including the Greater sage-grouse, as well as the human traditions and livelihoods that depend on it.
